Chase Bank Sucks HOME
Comments:
Chase bought out our old credit card company, Consumers Edge. We were pleased with Consumers Edge and were regularily paying over the minimum payment on a 4,000 balance transfer at an intro. rate of 6.9% for 9 months with the mutual agreement that after 9 months the rate would increase to the A.P.R of 14.4%. THEN....Chase bought out Consumers Edge and our interest rate went up to 20.03% !! Their explaination was that we did not read the insert warning that they said came with the first Chase statement, and that they were just exercising their right to enforce the 'HARD NEGATIVE' ??Everything about Chase is negative as far as we are concerned and we will not support their filthy habits anymore.

Close your high interest Chase credit card and join a credit union. The service is much better and the rates are always lower since you are a member/owner. I have two different credit union cards and both have interest rates around 12%.I have never had a Chase card but after reading all the nightmares posted here I'm glad I never made the mistake of getting one.

My husband and I had a Chase Manhattan credit card. We had been good customers of the bank for many years. In the early 90's we were hit hard by the economic downturn in New England that has been called more of a depression than a recession. Unlike many of our counterparts we were able to work with our creditors and avoid bankruptcy. Chase stood apart from the crowd through the entire process.
They were insensitive and unwilling to work with us. We could understand clearly that this was a huge business that was only concerned with a very short-term bottom line and compassion and cooperation were not in their vocabulary. What was not easily understood was the illegal and underhanded tactics we suffered through. They frequently lost what payments we could send in and accused us of not keeping agreed upon payments. We went through the fax tactics described by other writers.
The first illegality was when they called me at work. I was the newly hired director of a day habilitation program for developmentally delayed adults. The fire alarm had gone off and I knew it was not a drill because I was the only person to be notified when that was the case. I was busy assisting staff with the evacuation of the non-ambulatory folks before finding the cause of the alarm when the phone rang. I grabbed it thinking it may be the fire dept or the President of our organization. You can imagine my horror when it was Chase dunning me! I indicated the situation I was in and stated that I could not talk to them now which brought on their typical insults. I then stated that it is against the law for them to call me at work and they best note it in my file, as any repeats would bring suit and I hung up. (I then found that the staff had burnt cookies on the lower level.)
For the next several years they called at home and were just plain rude. I soon took the position that I would just hang up on them. In the mean time we worked out our difficulties with all other creditors. My husband was not able to hang up on them and would engage with them, which I knew, as a behavioral psychologist was only encouraging them to keep calling. He tried every thing from reasoning to attempting payment arrangements to exasperating their insulting demeaning comments. They had long given up on asking for or talking to me. All his attempts were to no avail. He finally resorted to my approach and eventually the calls stopped.
Interestingly enough, five years later when applying for a loan after having explained the Chase matter on our credit report I was informed that there was a loan showing up the previous fall where in we had made no payments and were foreclosed on. I was appalled as we had been current on all payments for four years and had borrowed no money the previous fall. Guess Who?
I called the credit bureau to inquire as to the legality of renewing an old debt in light of the Fair Credit Act that said my credit had to be cleared in seven years. I indicated that I was asking a policy question and not for a ruling on my particular situation. The woman asked who had done this and when I told her she said this was not the first complaint and our credit report was cleared pending investigation. We have had no problems with our credit since, though we have continued to receive threatening calls. My wonderful husband could not resist a sneer about getting them off our credit report at which point they declared they could and would get that reinstated at a new date.
I have always wondered if it matters to anyone at Chase that ALL OF OUR OTHER CREDITORS WERE PAID IN FULL and they received not one red cent. I truly think not.

Have had a Chase bank credit card for 6 years and in my credit report they list me as R1 which means I pay my bills on time all the time. All the accounts on my credit report list me as R1.
Sometime around June 1st, Chase Bank sent me an undated unsigned letter stating that they would increase the interest rate on my credit card from 15.24% to 23.99% if I did not respond before June 7th, 1999. There was no reason given except for a form that listed about five possible reasons. When I recieved it, it was already to late to respond by June 7th but I responded anyway. They sent me a tough luck letter and raised my rates. The crazy thing is that I don't need their money.
I am the type of customer they should love to have. I have never missed a payment on anything in thirty years. Goodby Chase!! You won't last long treating customer like this.

Applied for a really low rate on a Visa a month ago. Haven't heard from Chase, figured something was wrong. The card was a Bell Atlantic card through Chase, called Bell Atlantic, have no record on my application for a card. I was told to call customer service at Chase, Chase said to call Bell Atlantic, Bell Atlantic said to call Chase. After this run around, Ms. Rabb of Chase said she couldn't take my application. I said you are the bank and the bank card company? Right? But she said they couldn't do it had to go through Bell Atlantic. As for a manager to call me back, they never did. I asked where my personal and finanical information went to and both companies didn't know and if I wanted a card to re-apply. So I did to see what happens next. By the way they wanted my other credit card numbers to transfer balances before they sent or approved their card. I was also told my credit line was X amount before approval. No wonder they SUCK.

To make a long story short - way back in 1989 I obtained a Chase Visa Card with a $1000.00 limit. I used and paid my balance faithfully. In 1991/92 I encountered some personal financial difficulties and let my payments lapse. I made arrangements to pay off the debt for small payments every month ($20 I think) and paid back the entire balance.
Well, now as I am attempting to purchase a home I had my credit report run and lo and behold Chase has a delinquent account for this card in the amount of $1335. And notated next to it - WRITTEN OFF IN BANKRUPTCY. I never filed bankruptcy and called and faxed and called and fax them. Finally, someone called me back and said that this was clearly an error on Chases' part. They had a bankruptcy filing for someone else whose social security number was one digit different than mine (hard to believe) and they would correct the credit report immediately. Thought this was great and it was taken care of. GUESS WHAT?? They put me in for collection for the $1335 seven year old debt I paid. Now they want me to prove I paid it and supply them with cancelled checks. I told them you don't keep IRS records that long, why would I keep 7 year old cancelled checks. If I ever want to buy a house, I will have to pay these jerks and then fight to get my money back. Still working on it .

On April 4 I have opened a credit card account in Chase in Tortola branch (British Virgin Island). Then thay promised me to give a credit card in the not far future. Later - PIN number. In the end of April I leave Tortola Island. But when I opened the account representative of the bank promised me that I'll able to get it by mail. One month ago I called to the branch. And a representative who identified himself as "Mr. Tivon" told me that everything's all right, the card is prepared and they'll mail it to me. So it was one month ago. Since I just reseived a letter with "personal account information" and nothing else. So what must I do? Must I spend a lots of my money for phone calls or must I go by plane to Tortola? I am not resident of USA, I am resident of Ukraine (ex-Russia). And as for me it is not so easy to make phone calls everytime, espesialy to be there in near future. The problem alse is they do not accept any request, exept phone calls (no fax, no e-mail, no banking on-line for not resident of USA). So what must I do ? How can I get my money back ?
Many thanks in advance for your advise or anything alse for this.

Hear, hear!!! I thought I was the only 'preferred' Chase customer who has gotten screwed over by Chase's predatory (and/or incompetent) credit card practices. I am currently fighting a nasty battle over a $500 payment I made at a local Chase branch (which came out of my account instantly, of course) and never got posted to my credit card statement. SO..I'm out the $500 and a $29 late fee AND they froze my account.
The frustrating thing about these clowns is that there is no one and no where you can complain that seems to get any action.
Suffice it to say that I am in the midst of terminating all aspects of my relationship with Chase. Still, I would like the satisfaction of at least ONE phone call or apology from someone.
Has anyone out there had any luck? Does anyone have a contact that has worked for them??

Get a load of what these vultures did...here is a letter I sent to Walter Shipley. I know now that he is the Chairman of Chase, but when I called and asked who the president was, they gave me his name...I have yet to receive an answer. Please note that, for my protection, I have xed out the real account number.

Walter Shipley, President

Chase Inquiries
PO Box 15919
Wilmington, Del. 19850-5919Dear Mr. Shipley:
I am writing this letter of complaint to you directly because I have had no success with Chase Bank¹s credit card department in the clearing up of an egregious error.
Many, many months ago, my mother Agnes Burger had a Chase credit card, account. #XXXXXXXXXXX. As my mother grew older, I began to assist her in financial matters, and it was then that I advised her to close the account after paying off the balance. The reason was that the interest rate was nearly 22%. For a woman with steady income and a pristine payment record, I thought that a usurious interest rate.
My mother took my advice and joined a credit union, which promptly transferred the balance to a credit union gold card account, and sent Chase full payment of the bill, and then, we cut up the card. We thought that was the end, but it wasn't.
As the full-payment and the next month¹s statement crossed in the mail, the newly arrived statement contained a $25 late fee. My mother thought that when Chase got full payment and notice from Tropical Federal Credit Union that the account was to be closed, the late charge (which was computed based on the full amount) would be waived and the account finally closed. But it wasn't.
Repeated calls were made to the number printed on the statement in an attempt to clear up the discrepancy. Each time, some nice representative said that it would be cleared up, the crossing late fee waived, and the matter settled. We were told that a data processing time lapse was to blame for the problem. But this situation was NEVER cleared up. What happened instead was that each month, Chase kept adding yet another $29 (increased now) late fee, and it keep growing and growing and GROWING. I called again and again, speaking to a succession of representatives, each time, my anger growing commensurate with having to go over the same story line repeatedly, to no avail. DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY PEOPLE HATE BANKS? THIS IS WHY, MR. SHIPLEY!! Last September 28, I spoke with a gentleman who identified himself as "Bill" and after explaining the whole thing again, he seemed to understand and even be a little sympathetic. He told me that after tracing the account¹s history, indeed, full payment had been received. All that remained, he said, was to pay the initial late fee in order to clear the balance and close the account. In order to do that, I gave him the MICR number of my own credit union checking account, and authorized him to take the charge directly from my account. Initially, he told me the charge was $89. I thought it high, but was desperate to make this aggravation go away. That evening, Bill (I strongly suspect that is not his real name) called me at home (I don't know HOW he got my home telephone number, either) and informed me that he had computed the amount incorrectly. It was only $34. At the same time, he APOLOGIZED for the terrible way Chase had handled the account. Finally, I thought this nightmare might be over. It wasn't. My mother kept getting statements with $29 late fees. When I called, I was told that the computers needed more time to sort it out. And I was never able to speak to Bill again. This sinful treatment of a senior citizen who had been a faithful customer of your bank continues TO THIS VERY DAY! AND THE HARASSMENT HAS BEEN ELEVATED.

I recently ended my relationship with Chase Manhattan Bank because of a poor customer service experience. When I moved recently, after two calls and two written requests Chase twice failed to enter my new address in their system, causing my statements to be late twice and my APR on my Chase Gold MasterCard to increase to 21.4%. I tried to explain the situation to the Customer Service Rep, but was told that I would have to wait six months for review of the account.
When I told the Customer Service Rep I thought this was an inane policy and that I would inform others to not use Chase products, she informed me that if the people I hang out with are financially irresponsible like me, I could tell them on Chase's behalf that Chase did not want their business. I notified the Customer Service Department by letter of this incident, and as you might expect, I received no response except for a form letter indicating my account would be reviewed in six months.
I have since closed my account and tranferred my balance to another account. I would encourage others to do the same. To the uninitiated, avoid Chase products. To the unfortunate persons who have a relationship with Chase, I encourage you to engage in guerrilla tactics -- move your money, close your account, check your credit reports, and if you have problems thereafter, contact an attorney or consult a how-to book and threaten legal action.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story. The right relationship, indeed.

From what I have read on your site, and from my own experience which I will try to briefly recount below, it would not be difficult to defend calling Chase Manhattan Bank, NA a criminally inspired outfit that in its own sophisticated way runs confidence games ("Shell" games) not much different than one will find on city streets.
I had a Shell Chase Manhattan Bank Credit Card. I used it a lot for gas and other purchases. I always paid off the entire balance at the end of the month. They cancelled my card without notice. I found this out by trying to use it. When I questioned a customer service rep, she told me I had written them to cancel. She lied, I knew, but I asked her to send me a copy of my letter, which of course never came. I wrote Chase about this, and they have yet to answer. This occurred over four months ago.
Chase also charged me a $30 late fee for a $3.95 purchase (Bell Atlantic Visa), the only purchase that month. The $3.95 was acknowledged as having been received on the bill where they charged me the late fee. I wrote them to protest. They have yet to respond. This was over three months ago. Meanwhile, they keep adding $30 each month for not paying the original fee, but they don't respond to queries. They just bill. This is not typical of the industry. This is Chase. The criminal justice system used to prosecute such activities as usury. I suppose Chase bought them out.

In response to an unsolicited mailing from Chase for a Visa Platinum card and balance transfer rate of 3.9%i filled out the application and requested a balance transfer of $6,299, which was to be paid in full by 5/17. The application was mailed to Chase on 2/28/99.The account was approved & I got my cards on 3/19. On 3/29 when I called & asked about the balance transfer, I was told "the pmt was going out next week". As of 4/20 not only has it not gone out, but they now have no knowledge or evidence that a balance transfer was ever received.CS reps are useless; supervisors are surly; managers are non existent. It is the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Two months ago my wife sent Chase a check in opayment for a credit card bill. The check was nearly $5,000. Chase took the money, but never gave her credit on her account. She got the check back, and called Chase and they told her to fax a copy of the check, so she did. They said they couldn't read the back of the faxed copy, and asked her to send the original. She mailed a clear copy of the original. It clearly says on the back that Chase took the money. They told her it would take 10 days. She never heard from them. Then she called again. They said it would take 10 days. She never heard from them. This has been going on like this for a couple of months. Yesterday she called them. They said they have never heard of her. They have no record of her ever sending them anything and the person she talked to never worked there. They asked for the information again, and they said it would be 10 days.
My guess is we are going to have to sue to get our money. The lawyer has been called.

Chase Platinum Visa cashed a payment of mine for $4,902.55 on March 9, 1999 and never credited it to my account. I have called them at least three times each week to ask if they have credited my account, yet it has been almost 7 weeks and nothing has happened. They initially told me it would take 10 business days. They were notified the second week of March that the payment was not credited to my account. I was told to get a copy of the canceled check and fax it to them. I ordered the canceled check and faxed it, as well as mailed it March 30, 1999. It was sent to a Mrs. Dushaine, Unit 312 (she was the first person I spoke with). Well, no one knows who Mrs. Dushaine is. I then faxed another copy of the check, again, to card member services.
I called on April 12 and the supervisor I spoke with would not let me speak to her supervisor. She was very rude and said simply that she was sorry and that Chase was still looking into the canceled check and where the money went. I called on April 14 and a very nice woman said that she had my paperwork in her hand and that I would get my money by April 27. I called April 27 and no one knew where the paper work was, letters, or copies of the canceled check. I had to refax everything -- this time to Joan Ingber. I called April 28 to make sure Ms. Ingber got everything, but she was not in. I was told that she would call me on April 29th -- today.
I am still waiting for the phone call and my $4,902.55.

As a long time customer of Chase, and having 2 credit cards with them, within the past three months I have been getting dunned a late charge on my credit cards, even though I send the payments in a least a week before they are due. The payments are received, and appear on the next statement, but THEY claim that if it doesn't arrive by the due date on the bill, then it is LATE. How do I know when they actually receive it?They could be keeping the payment and then saying that it is late. Is this even legal? I have called, and each time have had to speak to a manager and go through hell to get these late charges reversed. If anyone knows if this practice is legal, please e-mail me.

Chase ate my credit card company. I'm not a crank and I don't mind the occasional screw-up, and I have never complained about any corporation before. But Chase's service really is exceptionally atrocious. I dislike to use the word "sucks" and suspect it diminishes the impact this site might otherwise have. But I'm grateful for any chance to commiserate about the monster that Chase is and share my story, so I let that slide.
I had a Marine Midland Continental Airlines card. When Chase took them over I decided I did not want to renew my year's membership, so when the annual fee came due I called up to cancel. I was told that I had to pay this fee since they had already billed me for it. What is more, if I ever canceled the card, I would lose ALL of the Continental mileage I had ever accrued in my Continental account. Supposedly, this was in accordance with my "agreement" with Chase. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she said there was no such person and there was nothing I could do and no one I could talk to. I was too shocked and stupid to know better, so I let it go by. She said I could write a letter (which I later did, to which I received an impersonal form reply that did not address the issues which I took a great deal of trouble to sit down and spell out). Nonetheless, I asked her to send me a copy of this supposed "agreement," since I had never gotten one when they took over my account, and indicate the place where all this was spelled out. I did not receive the agreement, so I called again and asked again, and this time I got it. But nothing about canceling the card or losing accrued mileage was there. So Chase lied to me.
When I renewed my annual fee, I was supposed to receive 1000 bonus miles on Continental from Chase. Here it is six months later, and despite my repeated phone calls and Chase's repeated promises, I have still not received these 1000 miles. So Chase has lied to me again. I've told Continental about this and they told me they've had numerous complaints about Chase and that they were "improving." "Not enough yet," I said.
Of course my phone calls to Chase about these bonus miles get bounced all over. When I give the name of the person I had spoken to previously, no one has ever heard of them. Someone finally told me they have a lot of turnover at Chase. I wonder why. I also wonder if anybody uses their real names to begin with.
Once in the course of these phone calls I was transferred to someone who proceeded to inform me of the wonderful advantages of having a credit card from Chase. I tried to tell her no, I already had a Chase credit card, and all I was doing was trying to get the Continental bonus miles I had been promised. She started all over again to tell me about the advantages of Visa from Chase. Incredible. She sounded like she was having a nervous breakdown. I felt very sorry for her and asked her name because I believed she needed some kind of psychiatric help. I called back Chase and told the person who answered about the conversation I had just had with one of their employees. My gesture of compassion was greeted by gales of laughter. "Don't worry about her," I was told. This is chilling. Along with the deceptions, the corporate culture at Chase is of a dehumanizing nature.
I am continuing with Chase until just before the annual fee is due, because since I paid the fee last year I want to get all the Continental mileage I can. But when I call to cancel the card and they try to pull anything on me about my "agreement" with them, I'll be ready with that agreement in front of me to calmly say, "Where does it say that?" They won't have an answer. I recommend that anyone having any problem with confusion over policies with Chase use this tactic. Until you get out of their clutches, at least.
In the course of my work I have been in a position to steer significant sums of money away from Chase and I have derived some recompense in knowing that I have cost Chase more money than they will ever make off of me by their dishonesty. Chase is an aggressive and ruthless corporation and I hope they go the way of Communism, which incidentally they strongly resemble. I am reluctant to give my real name, as I am now paranoid about Chase's ruthlessness. Thanks!

Three months ago Chase solicited me by mail to use their card after a period of non-use. The reward was to be $5 for any charge over $100. So I did, I charged $105.
After more than three months that $5 has never shown up on my statement as a credit, though after a 30 minute talk with a telephone rep I was promised it would in March. It did not.
I called back and finally was told that $5 applied to some other Chase card I had.

Wow. I've never been so glad to be turned down in my life! I recently recieved an application for a Chase Visa in the mail. I was denied. While trying to find an address to write about getting my credit profile, I happened across this site. Since I had a couple of mistakes at the age of 18 (credit cards at my first year in college), I have been trying to build up my credit for the last 8 years. I have read everything on this site, and whole-heartedly agree with all I see. Just trying to get a profile, I had to call 5 different phone numbers. FIVE! (and I won't even go into how long a wait for each one.)
Keep up the good fight, Scott. And whatever you do...DON'T SELL. (I read the article in IW.)
PS: Since information and knowledge can be the best weapons in the world today, I've taken the liberty of notifying everyone I know about this site.

I wish I had found this website earlier.... I'm sure there's more but based on my experience I have two reasons why the Shell M/C sucks. Their so-called "5% rebate" for gas purchase SOUNDS good, but their gas price is usually more than 5% higher than other gas companies. They also charge a $20.00/year annual fee which other gas comp. don't charge.
I was told by the service reps that if I call and ask them to waive the fee, they would consider removing the fee. And after I saw the $20.00 charge on my statement this month, I called them but their answer was "no." I've had this account since 1995 and I have never been late on any payment.
I wonder what kind of people get their annual fee waived.

Dear Shell:
I went to use my Chase Shell Mastercard today and embarrassingly it was denied. This was the first time in my life that this has happened on any credit cards that I have used over the years.
I called your office to ask why I was denied and was told I was in arrears. I explained that I had called last week and said that the check I had sent to Shell for the balance of $48.50 had cleared my bank 4 days before the due date.
You advised me to get a copy of the canceled check and send it to you to get the account fixed. I started arrangements to get a copy of the canceled check to you. Your office also suggested that in the meantime I could do a phone-pay. I asked what that meant and was told I could authorize Shell to debit my checking account to withdraw the amount I still owed. I expressed my mounting outrage saying I had already paid the amount, been a longtime customer, had a $39 gas credit, initiated phone calls and this was over the relatively small sum of $48.
In the meantime, with great haste and without the courtesy of informing me, you shut off my card. All this over a lousy disputed $48 that you claimed I didn't pay, despite the fact I had a unused gas credit for $39 and had been a customer of Shells for 17 years with an excellent record with you.
Your customer relations program stinks.
I am returning my attached cut up Shell card and want my account closed and my credit report purged of any derogatory information you might have entered. Also, I am giving up any claim to my gas credit of $39 by donating it to Shell and suggest you use it to start a CRISP (Customer Relations In-house Sensitivity Program.)
Thank you,
K.S.
P.S. As of today, March 28, the only response I have had is two additional billings where the balance is now up to $108. I have Faxed my canceled check twice, mailed it once, many phone calls and still no response!!!

After defending Chase for six years, I have had an experience that has made me eat a lot of crow. Prior to a recent move, I filled out the change of address section on my credit card form and returned it with my payment.I failed to get two statements in a row and got a call from Chase stating that my account was past due and that if I did not pay immediately, my account would be terminated. I had moved to 13th Road and they had mistakenly recorded the address as 18th Road. Upon explaining this to the woman, she snottily made me pay immediately via Western Union and stated that I would have to call a different number to get the address changed.
Multiple phone calls later and after TOO much explanation, the address was changed and I was promised copies of my lost statements. Nearly two months later, I got the statements in the mail and am checking them for accuracy and to ensure that all of the late payment fees were refunded.
If all looks ok, I will cancel the card and get a credit check. After being a perfect customer (no late payments, all payments in full every month, yes, I am that anal and precise with all of my accounting), I am outraged that it took so long to get this error of Chase's corrected and that I have spent countless hours explaining, correcting and worrying about this.
I now just hope that my credit report issues will be taken care of in a manner easier than others on this website. Wish me luck!

An article in today's Washington Post alerted me to the existence of this site.
My former wife had a Chase credit card. She was from New York and wanted to support the home team. BIG mistake. Continuous problems with the card and Chase's non-helpful attitude. Finally the account was closed, and it was over, or so we thought. Months after the account was closed, they started sending letters demanding payment for charges made AFTER the account was closed and the cards destroyed.
About the ONLY thing they could do right is dial our phone number to demand payment for an account that had been closed months before.
After complaints to the Better Business Bureau and assistance from her father, a sitting judge in New York, Chase admitted that a "clerical error" had resulted in several weeks of threats. No apologies, no nothing. Well, not quite. They DID start sending us card offers, saying how great they were.
As advice, I can only say this. GET A CREDIT UNION! Almost universally, credit unions offer better, cheaper service with less hassle.
I will NEVER, EVER, bank with a super bank again. They can all go to hell.

We rarely carry a balance on our Chase Mastercard; we use it and pay it off every month. We were recently received checks with a low interest rate that could be used on our account. I decided to buy my wife a beautiful diamond bracelet at Price Costco and used one of the checks as payment.
When we received our statement, everything was lumped together and was very hard to decipher. On March 29 I called the service and asked them how to pay off our recent charges.
I talked to a Supervisor (Mrs. Fernando) and was told to 'read your agreement'. I asked what she meant. She stated that any payment would be used to pay off the lower interest rate first, then the other charges. I would be stuck with paying their 'Mafia Rate' unless I paid everything immediately.
I told her that the information that was sent along with the checks was, in the mildest term, misleading. It stated terms like "you'll activate your rate reduction as soon as you write your first check." Again and again, Mrs. Fernando stated, "Read your agreement." She had no sympathy or concern for my plight. I am still waiting to hear from her supervisor, Ms. Glaser.
Chase is deliberately using a bait and switch tactic to generate revenue. These are the lessons I've learned:
1. Throw away anything from Chase Manhattan that is not a statement.
2. If you ever have to use their 'low interest' checks, make sure you have NO BALANCE, and don't use the card again until you've paid off the amount of the check.
3. Appreciate your understanding wife. (She was so mad about the whole ordeal that she's returning the bracelet so we can pay everything off and get rid of $#@@$&! Chase Bank.)

Well, I have been a loyal credit card customer with Chase for the past three years. I just reviewed my statement and saw a $25 charge for Chase Rewards program. Gosh, I guess spending $30,000 to $40,000 per year on their card is not good enough for them to waive the fee. This is not what upsets me.
What upsets me is the attitude of the customer service rep that I talked to. She didn't care if I spent a million dollars with their card. She said If I wanted to, I can drop their card and go with another company. That's exactly what I will do once I spend another $2,000 (so I can get my last ticket).
I thought in this day and age, with competition the way it is, a company would try to keep their profitable and loyal customers. BUT NOOO!!! THe twenty five dollars is too important to them, or is it that they don't give a damn about their customers? They have soooo many of them, if they piss one off, who cares? Chase is a multi-billion dollar investment bank. Well, I wonder if they'll be around in the future???

I just read about this site in the Washington Post.
About four years ago, I had an erroneous charge on my credit card...at first they told me they'd handle it if I wrote a letter stating that the charge was not mine. I did this, and didn't hear from them for a while. I was repeatedly in touch with someone at their customer service department in Florida, who repeatedly assured me they were taking care of it. To cut to the chase (pun intended), it took nearly a full year to have the charge removed, involving phone calls every month or so. Needless to say, I cancelled the card the same day they removed the charge.

Once upon a time, I had a Chase Bank credit card. I was stupid and got it when I was in college. I should have known from the application process that they were going to be a pain in the butt.
When the card expired, they sent me a new one with a big security sticker on it. You had to call to activate it. My husband opened the mail and just put the card in the drawer. Several months later, we wanted to go out to eat. I noticed the sticker across the face of my card and immediately called Chase. The customer service agent (that is quite a loose term for Chase) told me that I should have called immediately, but they would activate the card and it would be no big deal for me to use it within an hour. We went out to a very nice restaurant and at the end of the meal gave the waitress the card. She came back told my husband that the people on the phone wanted to speak to him. They started asking my mother's maiden name. He didn't know it, so I had to get on the phone and talk to Chase. They cleared up the matter, but it was all very embarrassing. When I got home, I called Chase and the customer service stooge apologized quite profusely and assured me that this w! ould NEVER happen again. They had it all taken care of and my card was correctly activated. EVERY time I used that card until I called and canceled it, the store had to call. Each time I came home and called and the customer service stooge could not understand how come the previous stooge had not done what they told me and assured me they had taken care of it correctly.

While vacationing in Paris my husband went to a cabaret show. Trying to leave three "goodfella types" demanded all his Francs and US dollars. They then demanded he give them a credit card. My husband claimed he didn't have one, but they took the wallet and found the Chase Visa and in exchange for exit of the building and his life he was forced to sign.
We went to the French police and filed charges. The agreement was they would return our money the next day. While at the police station, we phoned Chase to shut the card down. Chase assured us this would not be paid and everything would be taken care of. Returning to the establishment the next day only a part of our money was returned and they threatened to kill my husband and rape me.
We phoned the police again, they said the case was closed. Upon arriving back in the US I called Chase again to assure this charge would not be paid. I was then told by a supervisor that even though my husband scribbled on the signature we would still have to pay the charges. To add insult to injury, she then proceeded to tell me that she wouldn't have ever signed and simply left (evidently this woman was raised in Mayberry). As if this wasn't enough she then proceeded to tell me that my husband should not have been there in the first place and got what he deserved. HE was the VICTIM of a robbery.
Sorry to bore you to tears, but needless to say I am furious and have decided to make it my life's mission not only not to pay this charge but to encourage every friend, family member and acquaintance to transfer their accounts to another card.
Any tips on how to battle these shylocks would be greatly appreciated.

You all are correct!
I just experienced the most miserable experience with Chase Customer Service regarding my credit card. An electronic payment to my credit card account cleared my checking account but was unposted to my Chase account. (I have been making successful electronic payments for over 2 years)
I got two different stories regarding my account number and neither the customer service staff person or the billing person knew anything about electronic payments.
The really amusing and infuriating part was the only time the billing person offered to do anything was when I got so angry I said I would close my account. She offered to close it ASAP!
I never thought I would be grateful I banked at Wells Fargo but their customer service department was great- They were really wonderful- sigh
In fact even American Express was wonderful compared to Chase.
Keep up the work here! Thanks for listening. I also wrote a scathing e-mail and letter to Chase.

Came across your web site by acccident. My husband was on a business trip recently and read an article about Chase, not a good one! It stated that Chase was being investigated by some federal agency for over charging thier card holders, over excessive interest, tel calls at all hours of the day (week ends included) an so on.
My husband wishes now he had finished the article or just wrote the publication down to give me that information. Well this lead me to check the net, finding you! Here is the problem as I see it, it's my mother that has the account w/Chase. She resently moved.(trouble started)They just started to call her all the time. When the grand kids answere, they get a hard time by the representative, not realizing they are children?
Well a payment was "late", (now I know better) like all of your other stories, pastdue charges, over the limit charges, late charges, not to mention higher interest, monthly fee. After reading your web site, I started to read all her statements, back to 1991 (thk God she saved them) I found in several month statemnets current purchases and the regular Chase charges, but no printed information as to where or when the charges were made. So I went back to the previous month, no current purchases. ??? Yes, that is what I said! So every time I saw this, I look back more, till 1991. There were some current purchases made during 91 to 98 & those did have the name of the place where the charges were made.( I checked them out, they were legit charges) Could Chase be adding current purchases that did not occured?
In the mean time, I started to take mother' calls, and to talk with these callers,I wrote letters to Chase explaining my finddings, explaining the move, the problem with no statement from them, and started to keep a ledger on the conversations, times, people, dates (& recorded then also) See, Chase took three (3) months to change mother's address and send her a statement (she keep making payment any way)Now the interest is up, pasdue charge is up, she is over the limit (Chase put her there)an so on. One department does NOT know what the other is doing, they do not check back on their records, do not return my calls, some one did send an acknowledgement letter of my last correspondance. We will see! ( we are in LIMBO at this time)
What a mess!!!!!If any one knows of the article I mention before, PLEASE! place the info. on this web page, I will read it. Any comments, suggestions of what to do next, will be appreciated. By all means do pray for me as I embark into The Chase black hole, and wish me some luck!
Keep up with your web site, do not let them get to you! God Bless.

On several occasions Shell Master Card denied access to my account on the grounds of multiple usages over a short period of time. Much to my displeasure. When questioned about this situation. The reply was that it was done to ensure my protection. That is to verify that I was still in my possesion of my card and that the transactions were made with my authorization. This is standard operating proceedure for the credit card services department at Shell Master of Chase Manhattan Bank.
Unfortunately in an industry at tightly regulated as the banking institution is this simple proceedure is not always followed. Their failure to adhere to this principle of safe guarding their card holders might just cost them and me $9,000 + in ATM withdraws.
Last summer my credit card was stolen. I reported it to the company, who in turn advised me to wait a few days to see if it would turn up. They informed me it was quite a hassle to cancel a possibly stolen or or lost card. Also having a new one issued would created a major headache to have another issued. So needless to state I did not list it as stolen. Until several weeks later when I got the bill. In the interregnum a new card was issued due to the fact that the older one had expired. Unfortunately for me the person in possesion of my older card had managed to obtain cash advances on my credit card for eight days in a row taking out the maxium amount of cash available. I only became aware of this when Shell Master Card sent me the monthly statement in the amount of some $7,000 + interest. I called them immediatley complained (no good) Called the fruad department. (was accused of stealing) Called the Customer service people in Hickville NY. (no good) Filed a letter of complaint with the Better Business Burea to no avail. Wrote several letters to various department seeking resolutions. (no good) Now I must seek legal assistance to protect myself from this malevolent company.
The little guy just does not have enough pull in these things to make a difference on an individual basis. Therefore we must band together to correct this grevious error against us all.
So I have included a list of all the persons that I had contacted to resolve this situation. Please feel free to use this information in your own legal attempts to correct your own problems. We must work together on this common problem inorder to survive and vindicated ourselves. It is much to easy for Chase Manhattan Bank to simple out spend anyone individual in legal proceedings.

I used to be a Chase Bank credit card holder. The reason I signed up with them in the first place was through the Audubon Society, as Audubon would get 5% of the interest charged. Well, they dropped Audubon and I didn't get around to finding another credit card holder. Inertia, I guess.
The first incident was when they suspended my credit with them because the post office made an administrative error and sent my check to some lady in Missouri. This person was good enough to call me and send back the mangled check and envelope. I kept telling Chase that I had sent them the payment on time, but they wouldn't believe me. I got the post office to write a statement admitting to their error and they removed the "black mark" from my credit rating.
The next incident was when I had sent the check to the wrong Chase address - they have several, which gets confusing, so I got another nasty letter from them advising that my account would be suspended, never mind that I religiously sent all my payments to them on time and had a minimal balance. That really ticked me off.
I told them they weren't the only show in town and after I got this problem straightened out, I would proceed to get a card with a much lower rating, which I did, through my credit union. After they got the check, I took a pair of scissors and cut the card in six different strips and stapled it to a not-very-nice letter telling them what I thought of them and to cancel my account.
Well, guess what? That wasn't the end of it. They kept sending me cards and I would cut them up and throw them in the trash. THEN they sent me a bill for 20. for a card I didn't request and never used. Well, that just did it. I burned up some telephone wires and demanded a letter verifying that my account was closed.
So, that's MY lovely experience with CHASE. I don't have a bit of trouble with any of my other creditors who always treat me like a human being, with respect.

I currently have a "closed" account that I have paid on for the last 7 years. For the last 4 years I have paid on the acct with out fail every month. My charge off credit rating has gone from R=9 (the worst) to R=1 (the best). The original charges were around $725.00. The limit was $700. I had paid the card off in full in Feb 1992. Chase customer service reps let another person call up and over the phone get a Chase card in thier name with out my consent. The person who got the unauthorized card max'd it out in about 2 months. By the time I had found out about the second card, the damage was done. I was told they would prosecute the person. The person who got the card was my drug dependent brother. I have not seen my brother in years nor do I know where he is. Instead of them prosecuting him, I had agreed to pay the money back. My annual salary most of this time was around $13,500 per year. I was harrassed in the early days, I even went to the blood bank to give plasma to pay them. When I got out of the plasma center, I went to the Western Union Quick Collect services to send them some money. I could have filed bankruptcy like so many people do these days...God knows I certainly had a bad credit rating from this. I finally was able to place Chase on an automatic bank/checking acct deduction from my personal checking acct. I was paying $20.00 per month. In the maen time my $725 balance swelled from $725 to over $1100 from bank charges alone. Two years ago, I got back enough Income Tax Refund to call the up to offer a cash pay out. I was told by the service reps that a cash pay off of $958.00 may be accepted but my R-1 rating would revert back to the R-9. I was outraged at this. I had struggled to pay on this acct for years trying to get them paid off, but all I was doing was going deeper and deeper in debt with them. I was told to maintain the R-1 rating the entire amount of over $1100 would have to be paid. I out of frustration had an angry exchange with the service rep. The next billing statement that was received...I noticed that they had applied a new fee called "over the limit fee" this fee amounted to $25-$30 extra charged to the acct. I had increased by automatic bank draft deduction to $30 per month. So now my $30 pymt was up against a finance charge of nearly $30 plus this new fee of $25-$30. Every pymt I have made was a spit in the ocean compared to the amount that was amassing on this account. Little people like me who don't believe in bankruptcy, and try to do the right thing get squeezed by large corporations like Chase Manhattan..... ALL BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!! Hopefully this year I will receive enough to pay the creeps off. I feel like I have been dealing with LEGAL LOAN SHARKS. Oh yeah...this months statement...Prev bal $1448.95, pymt $30, over limit fee $29.00, Finance charge $27.80, New Balance $1475.75. A note is listed on the statement, it says Over line-Pay immediately $775.75!....ALL FROM ORIGINAL DEBT OF AROUND $725.00.
LOAN SHARKING IS ALIVE AND WELL AT CHASE MANHATTAN BANK CREDIT CARD SERVICES. MAYBE IF THEY HAD A BETTER ATTITUDE AND REALLY TRIED TO WORK WITH PEOPLE TO GET PAST DUE BALANCES PAID INSTEAD OF "SOCKING IT TO" THE POOR CHUMPS WHO REALLY TRY....MAYBE THERE WOULDN'T BE SO MUCH BANKRUPTCY FILED AGAINST THEM.

Chase has this 9.99% offer on transferred balances until they are fully paid off. I asked if I could use the check to pay for my kids summer camp. They said no.
I wanted to know why so I asked for the supervisor. I explained what I wanted and could not get a satisfactory answer.
I said I was going to spend $5,000 on camp and could spend it with them or with someone else. They said the decision was the marketing debts decision. When asked to speak with them, they could not give me a number but an address instead.
I found it odd that I could charge the camp to another credit card and then write the 9.99% check and transfer the camp charge to Chase, but I could not write the check directly for the camp. I still do not understand.

My credit card was opened with Consumer's Edge Bank of NY (DEL) and Chase bought them out. Within a few months, they increased my interest rate from 14.9% to 20%, without even telling me. They only notice I had was the printed rate on the bottom of my bill. When I called to complain they said that this was their going rate. At that point I had my boyfriend get on the phone and tell them that he had a rate of 14.9%, so how could 20% be their going rate. They had no answer.
I had initiated a balance transfer through Chase. When I phoned a representative to see why it was taking so long, he said the the check was in the mail. After a week I called again to see what date was the check mailed. I was told that I had requested a stop payment on this check. What incompetence.
In complaining to the supervisor, he answer was that I should reevaluate my position.
I have CHASE SUCKS AND I WILL TRANSFER MY FUNDS TO ANOTHER CREDIT CARD AND NEVER,. NEVER USE CHASE AGAIN!!!!

Listen to this one regarding the use of Chase Credit cards and I'm an employee. The occurrence I'm referring to took place within 2 days.I purchased Yankee season tickets at the stadium and purchased every Friday night Yankee game. The next day I attempted to purchase a new sofa and love seat after much haggling with the store manager. When the store tried to put my card through it got rejected and I lost my purchase because another customer wasn't the same couch I wanted and there were no more in stock.
When I got home there was a message on my answering machine saying someone was trying to use my card unauthorized, that stupid jerk didn't realize it was me. To make a long story short when I called they weren't very attentive and didn't care one way or the other.
And note I'm an employee and I have since cut up my card and I'm been spreading the word not to use Chase Visa or MasterCard because you will get screwed, oh yeah this all happened the week before Xmas when people do make a lot of purchases, dud.

I must tell you that I am very impressed with this web page and did not expect to find such a location not to mention others having the problems I am being confronted with.
My situation is directly related to my credit card. Recently I have found myself in a very embarrassing situation of having to restructure my personal financial debt. One of my unsecured creditors is the Chase Visa card. I have made arrangements for a payment plan through a debt counselor intermediary (which will protect Chase and repay the whole debt in time) which Chase has agreed to.
Now the problem. They continue to call me daily, and sometimes twice daily or more. I believe this is harassment and if it does not stop I will sue them or enter into a class action lawsuit with anyone else who is part of this web page and ready to take the gloves off and get it on. They have accepted the repayment plan, and their actions reflect not only poor management but extremely ineffective and unprofessional policies and procedures that will only cost them money not save nor recapture investment debt.
I have been in banking for over 28 years and left the industry because of this sort of banking activity and the lack of true professional bankers in the industry and major disastrous banking operating style changes.
I am close to the point of shoving this debt right down their throat after all that I have done to protect them and to repay my obligations, I get this sort of harassment.
Chase truly is an out of control gigantic corporation where the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, nor do they care. I will assure you that in time with this sort of poor operating structure they will collapse or be bought and then we will have an even larger ineffective banking concern to deal with.
Thank you for letting me vent, this bank is in trouble and definitely in line for a complete overhaul operationally from the very top to the very bottom. They are not above the law nor the rules of acceptable customer service.
I am one more brick taken out of their corporate foundation and in time the structure will collapse without some dramatic and sweeping reconstruction.
Regards,

This is a follow-up to my comments submitted on December 13, 1998 pertaining to my Chase VISA card and their "ULTIMATE REWARDS" program. In a nutshell, my request to have my points redeemed for an air travel certificate was rejected for the SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR. Reason?? Under the Chase rewards program, points EARNED do not equate to POINTS ELIGIBLE FOR REDEMPTION. Now Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines the word "earned" as "..to come to be entitled to." And the Chase ULTIMATE REWARDS catalog states, up front, that, "You'll earn one Ultimate Rewards point for every purchase dollar you charge to your Chase card." It's that simple." Well, not quite. The Chase definition of "earned" (in fine print) is that points earned can't be redeemed until Chase gets around to posting them to your statement. So, if you're out making a lot of charge card purchases for Christmas and so that you can reach (AND REDEEM) a certain reward before December 31, THINK AGAIN. Any points "earned" throughout most of December will be worthless until January, 1999. And, if you have any points over three years old, they will EXPIRE on December 31. Double whammy!!!
In closing, the Chase Customer Service Representative put me on hold, then disconnected, when I asked her if an exception could be made to allow my points EARNED on December 9th and 10th to be REDEEMED before 12/31/98. On my second call, and despite explaining that almost 4,000 points were set to expire on 12/31/98, the Chase rep. would not consider including the 226 points "earned" on Dec. 9th and 10th as being redeemable in 1998. So, for the second consecutive year, Chase has been stoic in its efforts to ensure that:
1. Good customers will not be recognized in any manner.
2. Bad customers (and if you are late with one payment only, this is you) will be punished severely with a six month hike in APR in excess of 21 percent.
3. Any customer will be disconnected from Customer Service unless you have called only to provide a compliment.
SUMMARY: IMMEDIATELY SUBSEQUENT TO RECEIVING THE LOUSY GIFT CERTIFICATES THAT I DECIDED TO OPT FOR (IN LIEU OF THE DESIRED AIRLINE TICKET), I WILL BE CANCELING MY CHASE VISA. I MUST HAVE BEEN A FOOL TO HAVE HELD THE CARD AS LONG AS I DID.
P.S. - If you ARE a fool, Chase would be DELIGHTED to have you as a credit card customer.

My experience with the use of a VISA card from Chase has been poor, at best. I have had my Chase VISA card for many years and always made timely payments.
There was ONE exception where a monthly payment was late and the PUNISHMENT was astounding. Here's what Chase did:
1. Interest rate jumped to a percentage rate in the low 20's (APR).
2. My Ultimate Reward points were not permitted to be redeemed, so I lost out on a airline ticket AND the 20,000 points required for this ticket were reduced by 3,000 points, thus leaving me with insufficient points to obtain the airline ticket. SOME REWARD!!!!
3. Chase Customer Service was not interested that I was a loyal customer for many years - THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
4. Chase does care about maintaining good relationships with its cardholders.
I once again have sufficient points to qualify for an airline ticket, unless, of course, Chase has "upped" the number of points required during the year, e.g., the Ultimate Rewards Catalog allows them to change just about anything in this catalog at their whim.
I will let you know how this works out and post the results shortly. In the interim, I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you shop elsewhere for a credit card institution that has some respect for its customers.

First of all, let me say that this comment is about something that's really my own fault. I am single, and on the road quite often. My Job sometimes takes me on month long visits to various companies where I troubleshoot and write software for CNC machining centers.
Since I'm single, I have to manage my own bill paying schedules - no wife to handle it while I'm gone. Well this month, I was a day late getting my Credit Card payment into Chase and they charged me 29.00 late fee for a 40.00 bill. Again,
It's my fault - I admit it. But 29.00? I am cancelling the card today. Chase sucks!

I obtained a Chase Visa card shortly after graduating from college in 1985. The interest rate was obscene, but like so many naifs, I didn't know any better. I used the card, and after awhile, I was carrying a balance from month to month.
In May 1997, I paid off my balance of several thousand dollars with a letter in which I referred to Chase, charitably, as "leaches." I told them to cancel the account, and not to send me any solicitations in the future.
Since then, I have received numerous solicitations from Chase Visa.
In October, I obtained my credit reports from the big three credit reporting agencies. Chase is still reporting the account as "open."
Chase Bank really does suck.

While in college, I made the mistake of becomming a Chase Visa customer. I had a very low credit limit and found the card useless. I had other credit cards that gave me 10 Times the credit line at the time. I eventually closed the account in October of 1992. I recently had a credit report run and Chase claims I was delinquint for 30 days. I attemted to call Chase a rectify the problem, but no one seems to care. I called 1-800-545-0465 and was referred to 1800 835-8315 and was once again referred to 1-800-441-7681. I stated my issue and the customer service person said I should fax my credit report to 516-835-6879. She stated the reserch group does not accept phone calls and would not respond to my request for the correction. I stated that I will not randomly fax sensitive information to someone who will not confirm receipt of my credit report. How stupid do they think we are. I was told that I could speak to her supervisor, Gerry Parker who works out of the Tampa, FL office, but Gerry would only reiterate the same information. The customer service person was quite proud that she could use a four syllalbe word.
Ms. Parker stated that their computers only hold information for twelve months. I asked her for the research department's number and she stated they are not open on weekends. I assured her I would wait till Monday and she simply stated they would not accept my phone call. Why should I be penalized for closing the account?
I told Ms. Parker to reactivate the account and provide some answers. She simply declined

Several years ago I paid my gold card balance complete off. Then called and asked Chase to reduce my interest rate. They said they would not. So I said cancel my account, I will use other charge cards. They next month I receive d a statement with a 10.00 balance. I called them and they said this is a insurance charge. I said that the account was cancelled and no one should be allowed to charge to the card. They said that I should call the insurance company that charged the accou nt for a credit. I said that Chase should not allow anyone to charge a cancelled account that was paid off and cancelled.I called the insurance company, they said that they would issue a credit and no more charge would occure. Well the next month a statement from Chase showed a credit and another charge. I call Chase and the insurance company again. This went on for several months. I finally called Chase and said that I refused to pay any further charges.
Chase filed on my credit. Once they, Chase, get into you pocket you cannot get them out.......

Chalk up another one for Chase. My mother who lives a distance away from me was one day late on her Chase Credit Card Bill. I handle her account and tried to get her ONE day $25 late fee reversed but their Customer Service? ?Rep at the Credit Card Toll Free Number wouldn't assist me. I explained that my mother was in her late 70's and that she doesn't understand finance that well, but this reasoning fell upon deaf ears. As of today my mother will have to deduct $25 from her Social Security Check.
Thank You Chase.

How dare they, reject me, and send me notice that I don't deserve one of their stupid cards!! Th ey solicit me...and then they slap me in the face and tell me NO...how dare they...they can keep their censored card!! I have other credit and choices to make for further credit...I don't need them or want them to "badger" me and litter my mail box any m ore...I will take action against them if they send me anymore "garbage" in the mail!! Chase Bank SUCKS. When receiving my credit card there was no annual fee, now there is. Their interest rate is outrageous. There late fee went from $5.00 to $20.00 and now To $29.00!!!!!!!! Even if you're a day late (like yo u have any control over the mail!) Ad somehow they always get the next day after the late fee is added. I called and said I am going to transfer my balance to a better credit card and all they said was OK. They really care about their customers!!! THE Y SUCK!!!

Well, with such a large institution, there's bound to be a lot of griping. Here's mine, however, and you tell me if the "relationship is right"
First, a preface:
I pay my credit card bill every month, always getting the check to them 1 or 2 days past the magical closing date or whatever, and always get the $29.00 late fee happily added to my statement.
I did not complain, since I can only pay it when I can pay it, and it just happens to be after the due date, although it does get paid every month without exception.
I recently had the need for a credit line increase suddenly, after my mother died. I was not "maxed" out, but had to pay some rather large funeral expenses immediately, and needed the extra cash to do this.
After camping out on the phone for a good 45 minutes, getting shuffled around from one person to another, to get an "EMERGENCY CREDIT LINE INCREASE", I was told to call back, like the next day, at a certain time, etc. And to a different phone number.
Of course, adding to my grief, when I called the next day at the proper time, I was just given a stock answer of "your request was denied, and you will receive the reason why in the mail.
I got the money elsewhere, and took care of what had to be done with my mother's funeral arrangements. Now I hear this recording when I called tonight: "Where the right relationship is everything"
This is a crock, and I will cease doing business very soon with this bank.
I will also tell anyone within 5 feet of me about the way they treated me, and recommend ANY OTHER financial institution to anyone who happens to be within earshot.
Thanks for letting me "vent" a little on your page.

Well I banked with Chase for 6 years and during this time I have never had so much trouble receiving serivce. 10 times during the 6 year period that I had a Chase Visa, they "lost" my payment in the mail, resulting in fines and penalities. Tell me how any company can lose a payment that many times.
During the last few months that I had a Chase card, I received a letter stating that my payment was yet "late" again. I called Chase, and after waiting 45 minutes to get through to the right person, was informed that to prevent my account being turned ov er to credit agencies as slow paying, I needed to send a check by Fed-Ex or, have them draft my checking account.
I set up with them to draft my account and checked back 7 days later and the payment still had not posted to my account. Upon contacting Chase, I was told my account had been turned over to the agenc ies and also during this time, I received my bank statement (before online banking) and would you believe the check I had sent Chase for $1,000 had cleared my bank. Wow!
Then I did further research and the reason that the electronic draft had not taken place was becuse Chase had computer problems and therefore it failed. Although th ey still wanted me to pay the late fee again for their mistake. Go figure.
Needless to say it took me over 4 months to get this whole issue resolved. So I love this website. Please re-consider if you bank with Chase.
Last year, Chase bought out Texas Commerce Bank and I bailed. As soon as they purchased it, the service when down.

I have been trying since April to get my money back from a secured card.
They recieved my check to pay off my account but not the letter stapled to the check?
I wrote a letter to both places, but they never recieved either one?
They acknowledged the second letter two weeks after recieving it and now 67 days later I call to find out when they are releasing my money... guess what?
It's not scheduled. Where is my money and how do I get it back? Who can I file formal complaints too?
Now 66 days after acknowledging my second letter, they haven't scheduled it's release yet!

After receiving Chase balance transfer offer from Chase, I decided to take them up on their offer and used one of their checks to pay a furniture purchase. Guess what? They bounced the check saying that it exceeded my credi t limit. Funny when I received those checks with my statement, nothing was mentioned of that fact. they made me look like a jerk. My wife and I will tear up our Chase cards and urge all to do the same. I will not deal with Chase again.

Chase -Shell Mastercard sucks. 17 months ago they cashed a check for my monthly AOL bill of $9.95 for $995.00!!
I got this straightened out Feb 97 and I cancelled.
Now June 98, they sent me a bill, 14 months after I cancelled, for $985.05! I called 6/30, they said they would take care of it. Iget a bill in July with interest and penalis. I called, they said I need to send in a copy of my bank statement from Jan 97 showing $995 was indeed withdrawn.
I wrote letters, got the statement from my bank and sent it to Chase. August I get a bill with more interest and penalties. I call, and they say I need to send in a copy of my check, front and back. I get check copies from bank and fax in.
Last tuesday (9/1) they leave voice mail asking for statements from 2/98 through 6/98 from my bank.
I just finished wg letters to bank and chase.
Chase Sucks!- They are totally free to bill me for what I do not owe, send letters stating that "good customers pay bills" and I could damage my credit record. This corporation can slander my credit record, when I have done everything possible to help them cort this error.
Is there any credit consumer protection agency that I can get help from?
Chase Sucks!

I have been trying to close my account with Chase for over three months now. Despite the company sending me a letter telling me that my account has been "closed", they have continued to allow another company to bill this ac count and keep sending me a balance statement. I have notified the other company three times not to bill this credit card. The point I am trying to make is that Chase has allowed these transactions to occur AFTER THEY HAVE SUPPOSEDLY "CLOSED" MY ACCOUNT !!!
Many phone calls have been made to Chase to try to get this resolved. Their response? My account has been "closed", but until I tell the other company to stop billing this account (I told them I had done this three times already), they will cont inue to authorize the transaction and send me the bill!
They call this a "closed" account?? Does this make sense to anyone? I have filed a complaint with my states' Attorney Generals Office and am about to get started on a letter writing campaign to an y media/person who cares or will listen. Anyone else had this problem? Some of my co-workers who have heard my story think it would be easier to just pay the balance and move on.
This may be true, but sometimes the easiest thing to do isn't necessar ily the right thing to do!

Chase Gold Sucks to be sure!! They charged me 20% interest because they "did not recieve" 3 of my 500.00 $ payments to them. When I tried to correct this with them including sending them copies of the canceled check authoriz ations they still put it on my credit report. We should all get together and start a law suit! Now I am with First USA and they are a hell of a lot better!

Last october, while traveling through europe, chase cut me off in paris and would advance no cash. as this was the last city of my journey, i had no other resources and had counted on the card because i knew i had a line of $1000 cash. (i was only trying to get $100 worth of francs.) i called chase twice from paris and was given two different reasons i was denied: they thought my card was stolen (though i had purchased air and rail tickets months in advance using the card) AND that i had no cash advance line because i didn't notify them of my trip. they would not help me.
when i got back, enraged that i was forced to leave paris at 9 p.m. on a saturday, go back to london and fly home a week early, i called chase again. they said they didn't know what happened, frankly, and did not apologize or follow up. since then, howeve r, i have been deluged with unwanted calls from their telemarketers trying to sell me insurance and such. i have repeatedly told them that i have an unlisted number and to please not call me again. i was awaked again this morning (saturday at 9 a.m.) by y et another telemarketer. they have used and abused me and my account after ripping me off for untold dollars. i am using this forum today because they do not offer one themselves for customer complaints, but i can assure you they will not have my business much longer. They Truly Suck.
